Time in a Bottle

Saving time in a bottle was the dream of singer/songwriter Jim Croce and he preserved the sentiment for the world with a song by the same title. Unfortunately, time ran out for Jim in September 1973, three months before the song became a nationwide hit. Croce died in a plane crash leaving behind his wife and his then 2-year-old son for whom he had written the song.

The lyrics say that there is never enough time to do the things in life that you want to do once you find out what they are, a sentiment that speaks to the heart. We all know how quickly kids grow up and how fast the old body ages and time passes. When things are good we, like Croce, often wish it all would never end. However, it does end, sometime expectantly as it did with him.

Croce wrote the song because he had discovered the joy of fatherhood, the joy of spending time with his wife and son. He would have liked to save time in a bottle and keep the joy forever if he could.
