Netlingo refers to the language of text messaging, a sort of communication shorthand developed to communicate with handheld phones and computer keyboards. In netlingo, letter combinations are used to represent commonly understood meanings. For example, IMHO means “in my humble opinion.” JK means, “joking.”
There are other codes for common sayings too. TOGB means, “This ought to be good.” GFETE means, “grinning from ear to ear.” YKWIM means, “You know what I mean.” AFAIC means, “as far as I’m concerned.” CMEO means, “crying my eyes out.” SLAP means, “seems like a plan,” and WTG means “way to go!” If you think about it, it's a rather hieroglyphical way of communicating ideas.
Netlingo may be representative of one way that human language may change in the future. MP3 and CD are already part of our everyday universal planetary vocabulary. With changes like these, who knows exactly what language may be like in the not-to-distant future?
