Higher Power, as the term is thrown about in certain cultural circles, that refers, not necessarily to a belief in God, but the prevailing notion that it doesn’t matter who or what you believe in. Such a belief does of course, include God if that is what a person would desire their personal "higher power" to be, but a higher power can be any thing at all whether it is a crystal rock or a rabbit’s foot or a person. In other words, all that matters is a person is willing to say they have faith in something, anything, greater than themselves.
While it is a start, the underlying understanding of course of such a philosophy as this is that everyone can do what they believe is right for themselves, and that God is undefined, not a one size fits all sort of thing. It comes from the belief that whatever works for you must be good, if it works.
It's a start, for to come to God and be saved by Him, one must first believe, that God is.
And God.. is.. the I AM.
