Pilates

Pilates, (pronounced, puh-LAH-teez) is a currently popular method of exercise that has many striking similarities to Yoga. It is named after it’s German born developer, now American, Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1880 - 1967) who originally called his method the art of “contrology” because he said it uses the mind to control the muscles.

Pilates is a sort of combination of calisthenics, controlled breathing and yoga. (Calisthenics are exercises performed without weights or other equipment like jumping jacks and push-ups.)

There are three types of Pilates, authentic Pilates, Contemporary Pilates and Modern Pilates. There is even a form called Yogalates too.
