Delphi, located in Greece, is the site of the ancient Oracle of Delphi, one of the most important shrines to "the gods" of the ancient Greeks. It was from this place whereby a priestess or triad of priestesses spoke forth messages, often in riddle form, presumed to be wisdom "from the gods."
Delphi, was also said to have been named by the god Zeus to be the center of the world, the site of what was believed to be the omphalas stone, or navel. It later also served as the major site for the worship of the Greek God Apollo, and the Eternal Flame burned in his honor. It was also the location of the sanctuary where athletes from all over the world competed in what was called the Pythian games, a sort of prelude to the Greek Olympics.
