Extraordinary Moment is the title of a presentation about globalization produced by The Foundation for Global Community (FGC) which advertises itself online as “a nonprofit educational organization, dedicated to reconnecting people, the planet, and prosperity.” They do so, “ Recognizing that natural, social, and economic systems are all parts of a single interconnected whole, the Foundation has been promoting cultural change, facilitating personal development, and strengthening community connections for over 50 years.”
At their website, which advocates what they call “a global mindshift,” cosmologist Brian Swimme has several presentations. In them he embraces the theory of evolution and suggests that because man is now so incredibly wise that he can even “see” and “hear” back into the beginnings of time. (See: Who Am I? Birth to Earth interview) In the spirit of the esoteric humanist he says, “We're done with a certain phase of our existence. Today, we are living in an exciting moment that finds us entering into a new way of being human, which requires a new story-a new account of what it means to be human.” (See: global mindshift.org)
Yes, you can certainly sift your mind from left to right... from right thinking to wrong thinking, or the other way around. you can even swtichfoot back and forth...as you try to be human in a world where things are always changing and nothing stays the same for very long. There is however a way that is right, and it's not just about what we human's think is right, or wrong, it is about real right and real wrong. Jesus showed us what being human is about... loveing God and trusting God in this thing called life, knowing God is the one who is in control. Jesus himself looked to the God of the Bible.
What Brian Swimme means however is that we no longer need the Bible, that we should disregard His Story... and somehow come up with a New Cosmic Story about ourselves that we write ourselves.. or rather imagine ourselves... to be in, one we can simply all agree to, if we are willing to let go of the "myth." Like a work of fiction we create, the idea would be to come up with the best story we can based on the the amazing knowledge of the universe in our hands, minus the knowledge of the Holy One. This equates to simply the fabrication of something that is not real. What is real is the story that comes down to us over the centuries, an old old story.... the truth of man's origins... the cosmic truth, the extraordinary Bible.
"In the beginning, God..."
No doubt that the moment of creation was incredible, maybe even extraordinary. And, how about when God created man from the dust of the earth? THAT too must have been one extraordingary moement! But then every moment is extraodinary. Life is a miracle! Life is a wonder! How amazing that we have life at all! What a wonderful world it is, even with all it's problems and pain, when there is love... and hope. Love... and Jesus.
How about an old story... one about being human. It goes like this:
I love to hear the story which angel voices tell,
How once the King of glory came down on earth to dwell.
I am both weak and sinful; but this I surely know,
The Lord came down to save me, because He loved me so.
I’m glad my blessèd Savior was once a child like me,
To show how pure and holy His little ones might be;
And, if I try to follow His footsteps here below,
He never will forget me, because He loves me so.
To sing His love and mercy my sweetest songs I’ll raise;
And, though I cannot see Him, I know he hears my praise;
For He has kindly promised that even I may go
To sing among His angels, because He loves me so.
